Have You Ever Wondered?

Have you ever wondered what your future will be like? I've been thinking about that a lot lately, and it actually depresses me. In a way I like that I don't know what's going to happen, but in another I just wish that I could have some reassurance that everything will turn out fine.

No photos for today, but I would like to advertise my blog that my friend and I have started. We're always looking for new things to post. It's basically about anything and everything. We're just going to mock a lot of people, show some art, and talk about culture. If you have a tumblr, definitely follow us...or just bookmark it! I'd like to dedicate this post to the ultimate gossip queen, Perez Hilton. I've always had his page bookmarked on my computer, but since I've had some downtime at work, I decided to go to it and catch up on my latest gossip. He really has a way with words. Even if you're not into celebrity gossip you should definitely read it.

I think I'm going to try and make this blog look a little more exciting in the looks department.

My boss Caroline showed me her Kindle today, and now I kind of want to get one. It would be so much easier than lugging around the books that I'm reading. They're so cute!

I Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way

So it's extremely late, and Ryan just left. I had a fantastic night tonight. I love that I can be laid back and not have to worry about impressing him. We do nothing and have a great time. And when we do go out, we also have a great time. I guess this means I'm falling in love. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yesterday I just took a few photos in my backyard. It's hard to say exactly what I was trying to get across but they mean something to me, even if I don't know what it is...yet. I began to work on a tilt shift project, and took the last 2 polaroids I had. I now have to find a store that sells Fuji Instax film. Otherwise I'll have to buy it online.

Anyways...

Samer wasn't too fond of this one, but for some reason I like it...

I will also be continuing the polaroids with magnetic words. I really like how these two came out :]

Breakthrough!

I am having a fantastic day! Besides looking cute for work (psh, I ALWAYS look cute :P), lots of exciting things have happened!

I've come up with a few shoot ideas and will hopefully start gathering models, ideas, props, ETC. to make them happen. I'm shooting a friend's promo shots for his album and whatnot hopefully on Sunday, and either Saturday or Sunday I have an idea for a shoot involving a waterfall (shh it's a secret!)

Also today, my boss Caroline and I went out to lunch for sushi with a friend of hers who works for Nylon Magazine. He's a graphic design intern and a very talented one at that! I'm going to try and get a hold of some of his stuff so that I can post it on here. ANYWAY! I'm going to stay in touch with him and hopefully have a chance to shoot some Nylon events in the future.

If you've never heard of Nylon Magazine, well, you should check it out. It's a really sweet fashion magazine (if you're a hipster, you'll fall in love). They feature a lot of awesome indie bands and artists. Overall, definitely my favorite magazine out right now. I would love to work for them in the future.

The only downfall of today was that I forgot to bring my camera to the city with me (sad face), so I did not get to start shooting the personal project I wanted to start working on. I will probably take a few shots later tonight when I get home though.

I'm now going to post some Nylon stuff for anyone who doesn't really know about it. Definitely get into it :]

Little London

I received an e-mail from my Aunt over in London this weekend with a link to some really cool photos of the city. Using a technique called Tilt-shift, the photographer (Toby Allen) made his scenes look like little miniature set ups!

I've seen tilt-shift photos before, but never really read up on the technique. Wikipedia became my source to find out what this was all about, haha. It's not a hard concept at all, and now I'm curious to try it myself. Of course there's a way to use photoshop to make your photos appear as if you've used a special lens, but I kind of want to purchase a lens for it to experiment. After I send out some e-mails at my internship, I may play around in photoshop and create a photo to see what it looks like.

But now I'm just going to post the photos from the article. You can also see it HERE.

We're Not In Jersey Anymore

I am pretty sure it has rained the past 25 out of 28 days, or pretty close to that. At first it was great since Lake Hopatcong really needed the water to raise the lake. But now it's been raining for far too long and I just want the sun! And summer!!

With all this rain, it feels like we could be in Washington State. More exciting, Forks, Washington. That was for all of you Twilight fans out there :] If you're NOT a fan of Twilight, then I'm sorry for the reference. If you have NO IDEA what I'm talking about, this is what I'm referring to

I would only enjoy this weather if Edward Cullen was around

Within the next few days I will be featured on the famous Chainsaws and Jelly blog! Keep an eye out, and if you have never checked out her blog, DO IT! She posts amazing artwork all the time :]

I'm hopefully going to be getting a lot done this weekend. My agenda includes building (YES BUILDING) an infrared filter for my DSLR/SLR cameras, actually shooting some photos, possibly looking for some more loans (gotta pay my SVA tuition soon x___x), enjoying some ice cream and quality time with my boyfriend, and possibly getting another piercing. We'll see how everything pans out though.

I am actually doing work today at my internship, so I must keep this short!

A Little Bit Of...

I find it sad that the "Breaking News" I now see on the television screen is that Myspace is reducing the size of their staff...or something along those lines.

So right now I'm sitting at my office desk in Manhattan wishing that AT LEAST I could look out the window and see something beautiful. But all I see is the building next door.

I haven't done much today but search for some photos for the company's website. I've been trying to brainstorm some ideas about photoshoots that I could do. Samer and I have discussed a possible collaberation to take place soon so watch out for that! I want to try and get some models soon and do something with them as well. I'd love to start getting paid to do shoots...if only.

Under the Weather

Of course I haven't been updating. What else is new? I did not sleep that well last night because of all the thunderstorms that were going on. I woke up this morning at 6:45 with a sore throat and overall just feeling sick.

I decided not to go into the city for interning and risk getting the whole office sick. I layed around and relaxed (probably what my body needed since I have been running around a lot lately), and I even took a few photos.

(For all of the immature readers out there, no, I was not actually using the bathroom.)

After laying around, I decided to get up and attempt to do something (wash the dishes maybe?)

I'm going to try and do more artwork now. Even if I'm not taking photos, doing anything else would help me in the creativity department. As for now, I have nothing else to say.

After feeling down in the dumps all day, Julie and I decided that our 16 years of friendship was being neglected. We decided to just lay around and watch movies and eat junk food (which is what us girls do best). If you remember a TV show a few years ago called Point Pleasant...I was one of the VERY few fans of that show. I was upset when they decided to cancel it after the first season :( They put it out on DVD though sometime last year and I picked it up. Julie had never heard of it, so I fished it out of my DVD collection and we started watching it. I must admit that it is very cheesy in some parts, but the concept is pretty cool (plus it takes place in Jersey :P)

So today I decided that I'm going to sell my Nintendo Wii and all of my games and purchase an Xbox 360. Be Calm

Today was my Great Aunt's surprise 60th birthday party in Staten Island. It was a good time and it was great to see my family. My newest baby cousin is so cute! And his sweater tonight was to die for!

So I'm going to leave my windows open all night because the sound of the rain is so nice. This is the kind of rain that I really enjoy. Thunderstorms. When it rains and it's cold outside, I'm miserable. When it's warm and it rains (along with thunder and lightning), I'm content. Sometimes I even like to take walks in the rain.

Now I feel inspired to post rainy day photos! But first, the #5 Explore photo of the dayyy:

Honestly, I'm not very impressed with this photo. The concept is cute, and the fact that the letters are formed out of objects found in nature is pretty cool, but eh...it didn't jump at me. But that's alright, kudos to Martha

Airheads

I was reunited tonight with one of my favorite candy's...airheads. I had forgotten how amazing they are! I still can't tell what the white mystery flavor is though :(

So today's #5 on Explore is a beautiful photo by Malayrish. I really love that this photo is in black and white. The lighting is superb and the facial expressions on the people are priceless.

Tomorrow I am going to Staten Island for my Great Aunt's 60th surprise party. Should be fun, and it'll be nice to see my family. I'm about to put on Into The Wild. Honestly, one of my favorite movies. The cinematography is...breathtaking. If you haven't seen it, you must!

My Life As A Typo

Summer's here and so that hopefully means more posting for me.

This morning when I woke up, I decided to take a few self portraits. The feeling behind them I think is more of a lonely feeling. I really hate waking up in my bed alone when I know how it feels to sleep next to someone, especially someone you truly care about.

So I'm supposed to start my internship on Thursday at BIDS Trading on Wall Street. However, there's much paperwork to be done and the background check probably won't be finished by then. I bought some clothes for it today, and I'm going to be a professional business looking girl hahaha.

So I've decided to start using my JPG Magazine account again, so if you're a member on there, let's be friends! Here's my link: CLICKITY CLICK CLICK! So my summer has officially started! Too bad it's been raining the past what seems like 238473958 days. I really just want the awesome weather that summer brings.

Swine Flu? Psh!

All this talk about the swine flu is making me think: What if the swine flu causes a ZOMBIE OUTBREAK?! I mean, how cool would that be?! I would so be ready. And as long as you read this book, you'll be okay too (I promise!)

Zombies are pretty much the coolest thing ever. Now I feel like just posting photos of them. I should be studying for my final that I have soon, but I'm already in summer mode, sooooo, yeah.

Inspiration, Inspiration, Inspiration

Before I begin with what might be my longest blog post ever, I'd like to pay my respects to a woman who passed away today. She was the grandmother of my best friend. I always considered her to be my second grandma because her and her husband always treated me like their granddaughter. She was such sweet woman, may she rest in peace.

Today I was introduced to a lot of really cool work. What I'm about to talk to you about may make you hungry, but try not to drool all over your keyboard :P Cake Wrecks is a really sweet blog full of photos of really awesome cakes that people have made. Another artist I was inspired by today is Elinor Carucci. I'm taking my Photo Seminar class with her next year and didn't even look at her work. I took a quick look today in class and it was amazing. Her work is absolutely beautiful. Her series "Closer" is just an outstanding collection of photos. I can't save the pictures off of her website so I'll post a few from google. My Unsaid Everything

That was my work space yesterday morning in the digital lab. The essentials, of course! And if you look closely at the computer screen, even though I was working hard, facebook was still up. HAHAHA!

In studio yesterday, we shot nudes. The people in my group actually wanted to shoot, which is a big deal because except for a select few, no one ever knows what they want to shoot. I took this opportunity to relax for once. We had a lot of fun though.

Brett checked his facebook, hahaha. WHO TOOK THAT AWESOME PHOTO OF HIM?! ;)

Brett decided halfway through class that he wanted to change his name...He was doing research online for a cool new name. He decided on Sebastian, so for the rest of class he was known as that.

We also witnessed, what seemed to be, an argument between neighbors on their rooftop across from our building. Brett thought it would be a good idea to override their conversation with his own dialogue. I decided to record it. This is where I leave you!

The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: you DO NOT talk about Fight Club! Third rule of Fight Club: if someone yells "stop!", goes limp, or taps out, the fight is over. Fourth rule: only two guys to a fight. Fifth rule: one fight at a time, fellas. Sixth rule: the fights are bare knuckle. No shirt, no shoes, no weapons. Seventh rule: fights will go on as long as they have to. And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.

As I write this I am watching that amazing movie. It will forever be my number 1 favorite film of all time. And it's all thanks to this man:

This past week has been a bit boring. The weekend however, has been amazing. Today I have some work to do. I'm going to finish designing and print the invitations for my Great Aunt's 60th birthday party. I've also lately been getting pretty inspired by Typography, and I really want to try it. I may give it a shot later on. I was sifting through the typography work on Abduzeedo so now I'd like to share with you the most interesting ones I saw. Today was a beautiful day! I started off my morning right by...no, wait, I didn't have breakfast, so it started with class. Digital photography was eh...alright. I just made a bunch of prints and finished my panorama (which I'll eventually post). I also had studio today and continued to work on my Opposites project. Here's the photos!

Recap

So I didn't update all weekend for a few reasons. The hard drive in my poor macbook went, so the apple store had to take care of me and replace it. It's a good thing that I had almost everything backed up on my external hard drive. Another reason I didn't update was because I was out having a good time. I saw two movies too, Taken and The Haunting in Connecticut...which actually, both were good. I brought back my little Nikon Coolpix camera to school so that I could update daily with silly pictures from my days that I don't have actual photographs. The next few pictures are from the weekend.

This is the machine that I was using until my baby was fixed...pretty old!

I had to bring my little brother to his baseball practice...I sat in my truck and read...and twittered of course!

I got chinese food with Ryan on Saturday night and these noodles were possibly the best things ever

And last but not least...the train ride back to the city. It was a bit of a blur and I was very upset because I came from Dakota's wake. It was nice to see a lot of people there to pay their respects. He will be greatly missed.

Hello New Jersey!

I have missed you, even though it has only been about 2 1/2 weeks since we were last together. This morning I registered for my classes for next year. I was pretty happy that I got almost all of them. The Astronomy class that I wanted to take was full (as it was last year when I attempted to take it), but it's okay. This is going to be a short post as I am expected to get my little brother off the school bus in 5 minutes. I'm going on a small photo adventure with my lady Alissa the Kissa later, so there will be some new pictures up soon! Stay Tuned!

A Sad Day

My mom called me yesterday and told me that a close friend had passed away. His name was Dakota McNabb and he was only 14 years old. He had a rough past year and even though we all thought he was getting better, he wasn't. I babysat Dakota and his younger sister Madison for a few years. I became very close to both of them, and their parents as well. Dakota was a great kid. He loved to play sports and was just overall one of the sweetest kids I have ever known. He will be greatly missed. It feels like I've lost a younger brother. I'm trying to keep my head up as difficult as it is. Rest in peace Dakota, I love you <3

Crazy Day

Today has been...odd. I am never in this mood and I blame my Critique class that I had today. There was just something about today's class that put a million thoughts into my head. I now have to sort through all of my ideas and place them into corresponding spots to organize my brain. It all started, actually, because of my friend Julie.

So two weeks ago my school had our Spring Break. Julie is in a band and they decided to take a week and a half road trip down to Texas. They had a bus that ran on vegetable oil? or something like that, and decided to take a group of about 20 people (4 bands) and just go. Listening to her talk about all the amazing stuff she saw and encountered, not to mention seeing her photos, makes me really want to leave the city and do something similar. I've never been out west and would love to just drive to random cities and towns and photograph the people there.

My teacher also assigned us a project due in three weeks. We have to create a series of photographs and then make a book. He doesn't want us to make a traditional book though, unless it really goes well with the series. I have a few ideas about how I might go about doing this, but it's really difficult trying to come up with something original and creative, and just...epic.

There are 5 weeks left of school and I really need summer now more than ever. I want to get away from the business and commotion of the city. This summer is going to be amazing.

Okay time for pictures. In studio class we have to do a photograph that has to do with opposites. I've decided to turn this into a small series. I'm doing opposite colors. Here are two that I took yesterday:

For the very people who actually read my blog, I am very sorry that it's been so long since I've updated. This past week was my spring break and I wasn't around/on my computer much.

I worked a many hours at Toys R Us to make some money to last me the rest of the semester in the Big Apple. I also started dating...well, officially started dating, a nice boy from my town. He makes me very happy and extremely comfortable. I like being able to be myself around people and not have to worry about them judging me seriously. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm a VERY judgmental person, but usually it's about people I don't care about. Haha, I'm such a bitch.

BUT ANYWAYS!
I started classes up again today, and there are only about 6 weeks left, and I can't wait for summer!

Hopefully I'll have some pictures posted soon. I didn't have much time last week to take some photos, so this week I'll be taking a lot.

I am finally back in New Jersey for a week of Spring Break. There's so much snow on the ground though, so hopefully with the upcoming 60 degree weather, we'll get it out of here.

Last night was the night! At midnight a few of my friends and I went to see Watchmen. For 2 1/2 hours I was in amazement. The movie was AMAZING! Granted, I read the book and the book is much better due to more details and stuff, but for a book adaptation, the movie was so good. I'm probably going to go see it a few more times too, haha.

Well, today is going to consist of me eventually getting off of the couch, showering, heading up to the daycare by my house to acquire about a second job for when I come home in the summer, then heading to toys r us with my grandma to pick up a basketball hoop she bought. Hopefully tonight I'll be seeing Ryan :]

Instead of Packing

Instead of packing to go home tomorrow night for spring break, I'm going to update my blog.

Yesterday was a full day of classes since the city of New York can only shut down for a day out of the whole year for snow :P Digital photography was okay. I just printed some photos for my portfolio, nothing too exciting. Then, in studio my group and I decided to try out putting gels on the lights. We used a blue, pink, and yellow one on 3 different lights, and used that to light the model. The outcome of the lighting was very cool, however, the model was a bit difficult to retouch. I'm definitely planning on doing this again with a different model, and definitely different clothes. I think it would be awesome to do it with a model in a bathing suit. Anyways, here are 2 of the pictures from the shoot:

Well, Important Things with Demetri Martin is now over, so I'm going to watch the rerun of The Real World that was just on. Hopefully I'll start getting at least my clothes together for break. I am extremely excited to get back to Jersey tomorrow.

Today was the first day since I've been going to SVA that we've had a snow day! It was very exciting, but very boring I must say. I didn't do much but edit some pictures, go up on the roof in an attempt to take some pictures, and then watch Heroes. This is going to be a short post, but here are 2 pictures from today. The second one is a self portrait taken in "another world". I had to do it for my digital photography class that I have tomorrow morning. It's pretty cool, I guess. Goodnight, blogspot!

Dear Blogspot,

I am so very sorry for trading you in for a tumblr. Tumblr is not nearly as fun as blogspot. So now I am back. Samer is going to be very happy to see this post. Let me give you a recap on what's been going on.

I have been very busy with various classes such as my digital photography class and my studio class. Thursday night I did a photoshoot with 3 boys I go to school with who are running for our student government, VASA. Pictures posted at the end, don't worrrrry! I also did a few "musician promos" for my photography on assignment class. I didn't feel like asking any of my friends who are actually in bands because most of them are unreliable when it comes to making plans and actually following through with them on time. Luckily, my one roommate Teresa was available for the job so she was turned into a guitar player for the night. Friday rolled around, which meant the weekend. Samer came to the city early to surprise Kayla, because we are VERRRRRRRYYYYY clever (and sneaky). Friday night came and Ryan came to visit. The four of us ventured to Brooklyn where we stayed for a whole 15 minutes and decided to come home. Yesterday consisted of a photo adventure. Samer's designs (Shameful Designs) is going to be featured in a magazine, so I helped him out by taking photos of one of his hoodies. More to come about that at another time.

Thank God It's Thursday! Thursday at 5:50 is when my weekend starts, and this week it started at about 4, which was amazing. Granted, I probably failed my Modern Totalitarianism exam, but it's okay because this weekend is going to be awesome!

As for yesterday, well, it was so beautiful outside (Sunny and 62!) that I just did not have time to write. I woke up, opened the windows (still no light, of course), and knew it was going to be a good day. I went to Mr. Lyle Rexer's critique class from 12-3. Sometimes I wish he actually critiqued our work instead of comparing it to other photographer's. I don't care what photographer my work reminds you of, I just want to know if it's fucking good or not. Excuse my french, haha.

When I got home, I made one of my roommate's go outside with me. We walked to Union Square where I preceeded to go to Forever 21 to return my god awful leopard outfit to buy something cute for the Stoplight Valentine's Day Dance Party SVA is having tonight. More about that in a few though. After Forever 21, I met up with my friend John and his two friends. We walked around and went into stores, of course ending up in Guitar Center for a good hour while they played all of the instruments. I resisted a Taco Bell visit by just sitting there watching them eat, and then drooled all over the Photography books in Barne's and Noble's. They then came over to my dorm where we jammed on Rock Band for a while. 10:30 rolled around and of course had to watch the Demetri Martin show on Comedy Central. I laughed the whole 30 minutes, haha.

Okay, so this Stoplight Party. We're having it at a hotel and it's fun because if you're single, you wear green, yellow if it's complicated, and red if you're taken. It should be a lot of fun, and Kayla and I are going to look good in our green outfits ;) haha!

As for this weekend, I may not be around much to update, so I'm warning you now. Tomorrow at some point I'm heading to Jersey to spend the night. I'll be back Saturday late afternoonish but then will probably be busy partying :P

Day 3, And Still Going Strong

This is probably a record for me. I actually feel good about this. Before I begin, I'd like to thank Samer for blogging about me today. He posted photos of his friends' photography and of course, I was there :] I would also like to thank him for the relationship advice he gave me. OH! And he stood up for me during an online fight (yes, it's as ridiculous as it sounds).

This morning was my weekly dosage of Photoshop for the Mentally Challenged class. Thank whatever god exists that I did not have to listen to a lesson on layers or masks or anything else that I already know about the oh so wonderful program. I worked on a self portrait, and as soon as it is done, I will post it. Then, as I was sitting there waiting for a print to come out of the printer, I realized that I had studio class also and that I needed to shoot something. So of course I break out my phone and text my roommate, Kayla, and ask her if she'll come to studio with me. She says yes, and we have something going. All that was left was to think of something to do.

I was thinking of doing studio shots, more fashion, of the different "decades". We started off today with the 40's. Here are a few shots. If you click them, they go to my flickr!

So it's 11:15, and I just remembered about this silly little blog. You were right Samer, I have nothing exciting to write about. My day started as my alarm woke me up at 8am. Since my room is in between buildings, I get NO LIGHT in my room, so when my alarm goes off, it's like WTF WHY AM I WAKING UP NOW. Needless to say, it sucks.

Photo on Assignment is first up on Monday mornings, where today I learned how to properly set up a musician's promo shot. I will be taking some actor's headshots for next week, which I will most definitely post here. My teacher, Sardi, also explained to the class this morning that it's only okay to have sex to get a job SOMETIMES. Hahaha, she's so funny.

Class ends at 12, and since my second class doesn't start until 6, I sit at my computer and twiddle my thumbs. I know I could've done something, but I just couldn't. I also took an hour nap tonight in class while my teacher was showing us a boring film from god knows how long ago.

My Monday night ends with Heroes. It was fairly exciting tonight, but it's still the beginning so nothing CRAZY has happened yet.

So the title of my blog tonight is FML. For all you mentally challenged internet lovelies, it stands for Fuck My Life. A new friend of mine has just sent me this website, and now it will become a new addiction.

Blog Attempt #2

Why hello there. My name is Ashley and this is my blog. I should also tell you that this is my second time making a blog. The first one, unfortunately, was a failed attempt. I have difficulties updating something like this every day. Since this is my first entry, I should probably tell you a little about myself. I am 20 years of age and am from Northern New Jersey. I live, however, on the lovely island of Manhattan where my school (The School Of Visual Arts), is located. I am a photography major, and you will find out soon enough, that I like to take photos of people. I hope to one day do fashion photography, but I'm keeping all options open at this point because our economy is down the drain.

In other news, my roommate Kayla and I did a cute little photoshoot on our rooftop yesterday. Last year we did shoots all the time, but this year has been a little hectic so we haven't had much time.
